The course provides students with theory, applications, and pedagogical best practices of social and new media environment for teaching and learning. It also provides students with helpful insights and ideas for effective engagement and learning with social media. Impact of social media will be further discussed through case study examples in order to help develop student’s ability to think critically and solve problem as well as demonstrate ethics and leadership skills required for teaching and learning.




New Media
• Media - ‘communication media’ and the specialised and separate institutions and organisations in which people worked: print media and the press, photography, advertising, cinema, broadcasting (radio and television), publishing, and so on.
• ‘new media’ - refers to a wide range of changes in media production, distribution and use (technological, textual, conventional and cultural)
 • All media was “new media” at some point –Newspapers/magazines – Television – Radio – Internet

• (1) The forms of communicating in the digital world. It implies that the user obtains the material via desktop and laptop computers, smartphones or tablets.
(2) The concept that new methods of communicating in the digital world allow smaller groups of people to congregate online and share, sell and swap goods and information. It also allows more people to have a voice in their community and in the world in general.

What social Media??


Social Media:
Social media is about the social ( how people connecting), not the media.
Media is an instrument on communication, like a newspaper, radio or internet, so social media would be a places where people can be entertained, communicate, and participate in a social environment via the instrument of communication.
